Something the Hippie culture did was to deny individuals of their individuality. In their quest to be "non-conformists," they conformed to each other. The movement also denied individuals of the innate desire to improve oneself, as Socialism does. Eventually, the 'producers' tire of carrying the lazy and see the folly of their involvement.

Of course, many others don't and push for even more freebies, on the backs of others.

As one who semi bought into the Hippie mindset in the 1960's and also served in Viet Nam, I saw some of this firsthand. The country may have put Viet Nam behind them, but how can we that served there especially now that the country is repeating the same action of supporting our enemies more than our Military?

What few fail to realize that is that much of the opposition to our involvement in Viet Nam was authored by the Soviet KGB and fed to the Hippies and the anti-war movement, many of the latter never realizing it.

The myths and lies of our involvement in Viet Nam abound today and we can never heal until they are exposed. The "better red than dead" crowd is still with us today, falsely believing if we are 'nice' to radical Jihadists, they will be nice to us.
